For firefighters
Firefighter training that sticks, all year long.
A class puts the knowledge in. Keeping it there takes review. ADVANCE gives every firefighter a few minutes of daily review that brings knowledge back before it fades, plus quizzes, exams and a training tutor on every shift.
Why knowledge fades between drills
Forgetting starts early. Knowledge can begin to fade soon after a training event, and one completion doesn't ensure lasting recall. That's the forgetting curve, first described by Hermann Ebbinghaus in 1885. Annual hours and checked boxes show that someone was present. They don't show what a firefighter can still recall on the fireground.
Review has strong evidence. Spaced repetition and active recall are among the best-supported methods for durable learning, the same approach medical students rely on through Anki. ADVANCE schedules review with SM-2, the family behind Anki's legacy scheduler.
How firefighters train in ADVANCE
Recall. Reveal. Rate.
Daily cards: answer from memory, check the answer and the common misconceptions, then rate how well you knew it.
Spaced review
Each card comes back before it fades: sooner when it was hard, later once it sticks. Time goes to what each firefighter is actually losing.
Quick quizzes to full exams
Quick quizzes, practice tests and full exams that show what you chose, the correct answer, and why.
A training tutor on every shift
Ask Signal in plain language, at 0300 as readily as at 1500. It explains concepts, builds scenarios, and recommends focused practice on the gaps your quizzes uncovered.
Progress with evidence
Proficiency in each curriculum comes from graded tests and exams, and every result is traceable to its evidence. 80% is the floor; 90% and 100% mean more.
Train anywhere
On any phone, tablet or computer: at the station, at home, or on a day off.
Built around the firefighter curriculum
ADVANCE's fire content follows the Firefighter I curriculum and the job performance requirements of NFPA 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications. Each firefighter's capability profile breaks results out by skill area, such as fireground communications, fireground operations, hose and water supply, PPE and SCBA, and rural water supply, so strengths and development needs are visible topic by topic.
Fire CE, tracked on its own
Every member's Operational Readiness Profile shows annual continuing-education progress: hours earned against the requirement, with Fire and EMS tracked separately. A dual-role member never sees the two blended into one number that could hide a shortfall in either. Department training credit is recorded separately from statutory CE awards.
Signal is for training only. It is not operational, command, or medical direction, and AI can make mistakes. ADVANCE is not affiliated with or endorsed by NFPA.
